What is a VA?

A virtual assistant (VA) is a professional who has up to the minute skills and knowledge of new technology, many times in a specific area. Most VAs have usually worked in a specific field for a long period of time and have decided to break away from the corporate world and offer their services on a contract basis. Most VAs work from home, therefore allowing them to offer professionals a high level of service at a lower cost.

What equipment do I need to work with a VA?

The most basic need for a working relationship with a VA is a phone. Ideally you will need a computer with internet service, and a fax, in addition to the basic phone service. It is not required that you have high-speed internet service, although you will find it very helpful, nor will you need special software.

What are the benefits of using a VA instead of hiring an employee or a temp employee?

No overhead costs (no office space or equipment needed. No training, thus saving time and resources.  No payroll costs, worker's compensation costs or employee related tax preparation and expense.  No paid sick days, paid holidays, paid vacation days, 401K, health insurance or other company benefits.  Only pay for time actually spent on specific tasks or projects.  The knowledge that your project will be done quickly, professionally and economically is a benefit you will really enjoy!

What does a VA charge?

Most VAs have a fixed price for services they are specialized in, normally at an hourly rate, with a variety of rate plans. You will find various prices, depending on the amount of time you need and the services you request assistance with.

How do I pay for a VA?

VAs are paid as you would any one you work with, or owe money to. All VAs usually accept checks or cashier's checks. Some VAs, including Jeri, also offer the option of paying via the internet with your credit card.
